“I've been in pain since 2016. If you look at it, I've always struggled with injuries. I will do it again this year at the World Championships in Athletics.

"I want to make Pakistan proud, I want all the prayers, I want people to feel joy," the 27-year-old told The Express Tribune when this correspondent asked him how he overcomes his pain to excel.

To his credit and courage, Arshad overcame the long-term injuries that plagued him even before the 2020 Olympics.

“It's the same as when I came back to the World Championships last year shortly after the Tokyo Olympics. I'm doing the same this year. I can say that pain has been a big part of my journey. It remains, but I'm getting over it. Even now, I trained very carefully. My legs are a little stiff, but so far I'm fit."

Arshad went against the odds in the qualifying phase, with the commentator calling him rusty just before he threw the javelin 86.79m, his best performance of the season.

Earlier this year, Arshad told The Express Tribune that he would like to train abroad with the same coach who is associated with India's Neeraj Chopra, but a knee injury kept him in Pakistan and he was unable to travel.

"I wanted to train abroad, it was definitely something on my bucket list, but how could I with an injury like this," Arshad said.
