Balochistan National Party (BNP) President Akhtar Mengal called on all political parties of Balochistan to come together and jointly address the issue of missing persons, saying that the country should not be used as an "experimental ground".
Mengal expressed these sentiments during a public rally at Hockey Stadium Quetta, which was organized to commemorate the second death anniversary of Sardar Attaullah Mengal.
Officials of BNP and various other parties also attended and addressed the rally.
"Sardar Attaullah Mengal endured immense hardships, including imprisonment. There is a huge contrast between the politics of the past and the present. In the past, politicians were proud of their imprisonment. We must follow in their footsteps," the BNP president said.
Mengal appealed to all the people living in Balochistan to unite against oppression and cruelty, just as their elders did, and sacrifice their lives and the lives of their children without hesitation.
He expressed concern that those who stood up for their rights were labeled traitors, while those "licking boots" were given honor guards.
“The world has reached the moon, but mothers and sisters await the return of their sons and brothers here.
"We are being interrogated for discussing the issue of missing persons. But we ask them, what else should we be talking about? If they stop destroying people's homes and detaining their loved ones, we won't need to talk about it," Mengal said.
He also pledged his loyalty to the land for which the elders had sacrificed their blood, stressing the importance of not turning the land into a testing ground.
He called for showing mercy tofuture generations.
Mengal noted the country's economic situation, criticizing poor policies that isolated Pakistan on the world stage and made it difficult to obtain loans or even charity.
He highlighted the lack of justice in the courts, referring to the cases of Iman Mazari and Ali Wazir, who faced repeated arrests even after being acquitted in the case.
Asghar Khan Achakzai, provincial president of Awami National Party, also paid tribute to the struggle of Attaullah Mengal and appreciated his efforts to raise voice for all oppressed people
"Balochistan is rich in resources but remains backward and Baloch and Pashtuns must unite for the betterment of the province," he urged
Senator Kabir Mohammad Shahi, Central Vice President of the National Party, spoke on the occasion and highlighted Attaullah Mengal's lifelong dedication to the emancipation and education of the oppressed classes.
Highlighting the disparity in Balochistan's resources and development, Shahi said that despite gas reserves in the region, women still depend on wood for cooking.
Besides, he pointed out that Chagai remained underdeveloped and Gwadar faced problems of water scarcity
The gathering also saw several other political leaders addressing the crowd and discussing the challenges faced by the people of Balochistan.
