 Accra, August 24, GNA – The Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) has inaugurated its Ex-Staff Association as part of its 25th anniversary celebrations activities in Accra.

The association, which is registered under the Companies Act 2019, Act 992, will create and maintain an effective link between GTA and formal employees and promote better understanding and welfare among members.

It is also a dialogue on matters of common interest to advance the tourism industry and make their expertise and experiential understanding available to the public and private sectors of the industry.

Madam Adeline Boateng, a former employee and president of the association, in 2018 brought the idea to several former employees to come together and form an association that would seek the welfare of members and help grow tourism.

She said the association currently has 73 members ranging in age from 60 to 83. "We also have members who have been in the service for up to 42 years and we look forward to increasing our numbers."

She congratulated the GTA on its 50th anniversary, adding that she believes their wealth of institutional knowledge, professionalism, insight and passion can come in handy and be of immense value to the authority in the coming years.

If the roads were in good condition and the drivers drove well, according to the president, most retirees would feel good about visiting places they have not been to before.

“We aim to work with the relevant agencies to address the challenges of road travel in Ghana and will therefore engage the vehicle manufacturing and maintenance company and relevant ministries and agencies to suggest appropriate steps to ensure the safety of our vehicles and roads for Ghanaian travellers. public and foreign visitors. This project will also address road quality, driver education, behavior and attitudes.”

Mr. Akwasi Agyeman, Chief Executive Officer (CEO), GTA said the achievements of the authority depended on the good work of the former staff who worked tirelessly to keep the organization on its feet until now.

He said, “GTA is because you are. It is your work and effort that has brought us this far. We wouldn't have come this far without your efforts. You continue to be our guiding light and we appreciate that and are thrilled to have this inauguration as part of our anniversary."

Mr. Agyeman commended the Association for coming up with such a project that is timely and relevant, saying that everyone will have to work together as they continue to promote domestic tourism, especially to ensure that the roads are safe and people have the confidence to travel .

Mr. Seth Adjei Baah, Chairman of the Board of GTA, commended the former staff for the good foundation laid for the Authority to survive all these years, saying, “It is a good and great job that you have done during your tenure that the current Board and management is building on that and we are grateful for that.”

He said that even in their old age, they still have a lot to offer the sector to develop the sector to become the engine of the country's growth and urged them to use their expertise and experience to put Ghana on the map of Africa. , as the preferred destination in Africa by the end of 2024.

Madam Doreen Owusu-Fianko, former CEO and former staff of GTA, gave credit to God for how far he has brought GTA and congratulated all the members and staff present for their dedication.
