Accra, August 19, GNA – Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia has called on the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) and the Ghana Armed Forces Academy to contribute meaningfully to the government's digitization strategies to enhance the country's digital progress.
In his speech at the ninth graduation ceremony of the Ghana Command and Staff College (GAFCSC) in Accra, Dr. Bawumia hailed the historical contribution of the armed forces to technological advancement and called on the military to engage in the digitization process.
It is recognized all over the world that military and technology are inseparable,” said Dr Bawumia.
“Indeed, much of the technology we enjoy today is the product of military research. Examples include microwave ovens, computers, GPS technology, the Internet, nuclear power, radios, etc.
“Therefore, I look forward to the Ghana Armed Forces, especially the GAFCSC, to assist with strategies that will contribute to the government's digitization agenda,” added the Vice President.
He said the government was looking forward to seeing the GAFCSC develop modules and programs that would challenge the ingenuity of the youth, especially in the area of digitalization awareness and cyber security related issues.
Dr. Bawumia appreciated the significant impact GAFCSC has had as a citadel of knowledge not only on Ghanaians but also serving male nationals of other African countries.
“I have repeatedly referred to the GAFCSC as a major national asset with pride of place in Ghana and across the continent as it continues to serve as a citadel of knowledge for our military and for allied countries,” he said.
"Over time, GAFCSC has convincingly carved out a niche as the destination of choice for allied officers and countries seeking professional excellence in their respective armed forces."
With the growing reputation of the academy, Dr. Bawumia further urged the review committee of the staff academy and the military high command to use their enhanced position and prominence to work to sustain the gains already made and venture into other unexplored areas necessary for national development.
“The increased demand for vacancies in your programs should serve as motivation to explore and foray into other areas of study that are essential for the socio-economic development of our dear nation and by extension the continent.”
“With the College's status as a tertiary institution and its flagship integrated programme, namely Passed Staff College (psc) and Master of Science in Defense and International Policy, GAFCSC has assumed an even greater role in shaping leadership and management skills. many professionals from Ghana and other sister African countries.
Vice President Bawumia gave an assurance that the government would continue to support the military, including expanding its infrastructure.
The joint graduation took place in 2023 in the Senior Command and Staff Course 44 and the Master of Science in Defense and International Politics Class.
A total of 85 graduates passed out of which 25 were from 11 allied countries including Nigeria, Togo, Cote d'Ivoire, Liberia, Tanzania and South Africa.
