Kasigau Ranch has about 6,000 acres set aside for wildlife conservation, a habitat for several species.

According to Mwasaka, carbon credit revenue of approximately KSh 40 million per year has been used to improve infrastructure in conservation, expand education through scholarships and water projects, and establish sustainable businesses that benefit local communities.

Another ranch dotting the landscape of Taita Taveta District is Mgeno, which covers an area of ​​53,000 acres.

The ranch, which was gazetted as a nature preserve in June 2023, has a membership of about 1,136 local local shareholders.

Ranch Mgeno is known as a livestock production area which forms part of its main activity.

Officer in charge of Livestock and Agriculture, Arnold Msheshe, told TUKO.co.ke that due to climate change issues, stocks are being reduced.

To ensure they have enough water for both cattle and pasture, the ranch has invested in water reservoirs and man-made dams.

They engage in Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities such as raising awareness among local residents about nature conservation, digging latrines, donating food to schools and also supporting youth groups through sports activities.

A few kilometers from Mgeno is Lumo Ranch, which is located on a 48,000 acre property.

The Conservancy is an innovative community-run nature reserve made up of three community ranches (Lualenyi, Mramba and Oza, the first letters of which form the word LUMO).
